Bio
Coach Mickey” feels so blessed to be a part of the M&D Girls Lacrosse Program. His passion and determination is to equip aspiring athletes with the skills and team experiences necessary to compete at their highest level and also to come alongside parents helping them navigate disciplined balance they are faced with each and every day with opportunities and time management.
Since 1975 (47 Years) Coach Mickey has been coaching youth and high school lacrosse and is currently an Assistant Boys Lacrosse Coach for 2022 and 2023 State 3A Finalist MT Hebron High School.
He started coaching 13/14 Girls lacrosse in the HCLP Cobra Program in 1998 noticing they were very gifted girl middle school athletes in Howard County that were strong field hockey, soccer, and basketball but did not compete well in the MYLA primarily due to inexperienced coaches. Coach Mickey was able to adapt the techniques from coaching boys’ lacrosse to girls’ lacrosse very quickly. His COBRA Girls was able to compete favorably with the then private school dominated MYLA Teams Catonsville; Towsontown; Lutherville Timonium; Kelly Post; and Carroll Manor winning MYLA Championships never done by a COBRA Team! His COBRA Teams also played and defeated middle school teams from McDonogh; Bryn Mawr; Roland Park; NDP; and ST Stephens ST Agnes. When the COBRA girls entered high school, they knew what competing and defeating the best competition looked like and what it took as an athlete and team to accomplish their goal.
Coach Mickey is so proud of is that the 13-14 Girls on these Elite Cobra Teams they went on to form the foundation for their high school teams at Mt Hebron; Glenelg; Centennial; River Hill; and Hammond. Many of these girls went on to earn D1 Scholarships at Maryland; North Carolina; Duke; Ohio State; Penn State; Johns Hopkins; James Madison; Loyola; Boston University; George Washington and many others. Two of the COBRA girls are now Head Coaches at Virginia Tech (Kristen Skiara-Mt Hebron/Duke) and American University (Lindsay Teeters-Glenelg/Boston University).
Coach Mickey was a D1 Scholarship Striker for the University of Maryland Terps. He is married to Lisa for over 40 years, has 4 grown children, and 6 very active grandchildren.
